Odoo 19 Community's point of sale, with what the SRI requires of a till. Every sale leaves as an electronic invoice and every return as a credit note, without the cashier having to decide it.
An invoice for every sale
A business in the electronic scheme issues an electronic document for every sale, including sales to the final consumer, Ecuador's name for a buyer who is not identified (Resolution NAC-DGERCGC18-00000233). The till always invoices: to the final consumer by default, or to the customer the cashier identifies. The 80 mm receipt prints the access key, the document's identifier at the SRI, with its QR code.
Final consumer, up to USD 50
Above USD 50 the SRI's technical specification requires the buyer's details, and the till does not take payment until it has them: it asks for the ID card, the RUC or the passport, and checks the check digit of ID cards and of individuals' RUCs. A new customer gives a name and, optionally, an email.
Returns as credit notes
A return is made from the order list, with its reason, and leaves as a credit note to the same customer, carrying the number, date and access key of the invoice it corrects. Since 1 January 2026 an invoice to the final consumer can be neither voided nor credited (Resolution NAC-DGERCGC25-00000014): the till does not let those sales be returned, and quotes the resolution. What to do in those cases is your accountant's call.
Sent to the SRI at once
Since 1 January 2026 every document has to be transmitted the moment it is generated, with no grace period. When the sale is paid, the invoice already has its access key and its XML checked against the SRI's schema, and it leaves for the SRI within seconds, without making the customer wait. If a document has been waiting more than five minutes, or the SRI rejected it, the till shows a red warning with the count. For a company, each document transmitted late is fined ten times the basic unified wage: USD 4,820 in 2026 (Resolution NAC-DGERCGC24-00000022).
One emission point per till
Each till is created with its own emission point (001-101, 001-102...), its own cash and its payment methods. That way it numbers on its own and in order, never repeating a sequence number. A till missing anything does not open, and the message says what to click to fix it.
The SRI's payment codes
Each payment method carries its code: 01 cash, 16 debit card, 19 credit card and 20 transfer. The invoice declares what was actually paid with each, net of change: USD 20 in cash for a USD 16.70 bill is declared as 01 for 16.70, and a split payment carries both methods.
Where it stands: on 5 October 2026 the SRI authorised, in its test environment, four documents from this till signed with a real certificate: three invoices and the credit note of a partial return. It has not issued in the production environment yet; that happens with the pilot in your shop. What it does not do: promotions that subtract through negative lines, which the SRI does not accept (they go as line discounts), or invoicing without the server, because the number and the access key are born there. The till is not part of the plans below: it is quoted for your case, by how many tills you run and what equipment you use.
